what is the deal with cupcakes? they have made a big name for themselves in the dessert market lately, and it's surprising and exciting to me. today i had lunch with a former employer and i was really tempted to go and buy a cupcake after. really tempted. we also bought a cupcake for a friend the other night, and took it to a party... from a place called "kickass cupcakes" that sells-- you guessed it-- only cupcakes. i also recently saw "throwdown with bobby flay" on the food network in which the food was cupcakes.
i'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed that cupcakes are practically as popular as ipods, or if i am all alone here. ok that's probably an exaggeration, forgive me. cupcakes are practically as popular as pomegranate juice-- you gotta give me that one.
discuss.

actually it is funny you mention this about cupcakes, a store opened not too long ago down on clark a couple blocks from our apartment and it only sells cupcakes. i wonder what it is that people think cupcakes are now in style?
When Scott & I were in Portland last year, cupcake stores were EVERYWHERE. It seems to be this craze sweeping the nation! There are worse trends I think. :)
well, hell, there is at least one cupcake place in Ann Arbor, and another in Ypsi. That says it all, cupcakes are the rage. Maybe I should open a shop here Idaho?!
Cupcakes hit the NY market a few years ago -- basically Sex and the City starting the Magnolia craze and now there are 15 stores devoted to cupcakes. About a year ago, a bunch of places opened in LA. Now cupcake displays are just as common as wedding cakes. I love them -- they are the perfect size to consume!
